About Foster Falls
Foster Falls is the flagship sport crag of South Cumberland State Park — 180+ bolted routes on hard Cumberland Plateau sandstone along a compact cliffline near the 60-foot Foster Falls waterfall, an hour northwest of Chattanooga. Slabs, vertical faces, overhangs, dihedrals and roofs across every grade (5.5 to 5.13d). Cliff sits under mixed forest with sectors of varying aspect — chase shade in summer, sun in winter. Waterfall spray keeps humidity high near the base; some sectors seep for days after heavy rain — climb the exposed White Wall or Right Bunker first after wet spells. Cumberland sandstone wet-rock ethic. — you'll get a confirmation number to keep with you. Gate closes 30 min after Central sunset. On-site 26-site campground (reservations required). Rules: no rappelling in climbing areas, no top-rope from fixed anchors, leashed dogs only.
