About New River Gorge — Bridge Buttress
Bridge Buttress is the New River Gorge's traditional meeting crag — a south-facing sandstone wall directly below the New River Gorge Bridge, 60+ trad, sport and toprope routes in a compact area with a 5-minute approach off Fayette Station Road. Mountain Project confirms "all of the crags have a southern aspect," so the exposed face dries quickly, but the crack systems seep for a good while after rain — skip Bridge Buttress after a wet spell and head to Endless Wall's Cirque instead. Cumberland sandstone wet-rock ethic. Free NPS access; same NPS rules apply (no drones, no new bolts). 15-person group size limit. NRAC lists no active peregrine closure.
