About New River Gorge — Endless Wall
Endless Wall is the New River Gorge's crown jewel — three miles of hard Nuttall sandstone on the north rim of the gorge, over 300 sport and trad routes accessed via steel ladders from the Fern Creek and Nuttall trailheads. Walls face south (out over the gorge), giving fast drying compared to shadier NRG cliffs. Spring and autumn are prime; the Cirque sector holds dry conditions into January, and the Aesthetica area stays climbable during August afternoons in shade. Free NPS access (New River Gorge National Park and Preserve); NPS restrictions: NO drones, NO new bolted routes (existing routes OK; bolt replacement requires a permit), no anchoring to vegetation, no tree cutting. NRAC lists no active peregrine closures on Endless Wall as of 2025-26. Helmets recommended.
