About New River Gorge — Junkyard

Junkyard is the New River Gorge's popular introductory crag — 64 routes concentrated in sub-areas (Junkyard Wall, Dog Wall, Cat Cliff, Zealous Area, Junkyard Cave for bouldering) with a minimal approach and all-day sun on most routes, making weekends genuinely crowded with organised climbing groups. New Yosemite (5.9) is one of the most-climbed routes in the whole Gorge. The area's namesake originally ran through an Appalachian refuse pile that has mostly been cleaned up. Same NPS rules as the rest of the NRG (no drones, no new bolts). Cumberland sandstone wet-rock ethic applies.
