About Pitchoff Chimney Cliff
Pitchoff Chimney Cliff sits directly above Route 73 across from Cascade Lakes in Cascade Pass — Mountain Project calls it "the windiest spot of Cascade Pass". A five-minute roadside pull-off makes it one of the most convenient trad venues in the Adirondacks. The anorthosite wall holds a great spread of moderates from 5.6 to 5.10 including Great Chimney (5.6), Pete's Farewell (5.7), The El (5.8), Roaches on the Wall (5.10), and Star Sailor (5.10c). South-facing and mid-elevation, the crag dries reasonably fast between systems and stays climbable through most of summer. Two small parking lots on Route 73 opposite the Cascade Lakes overlook; DEC land, free, day-use only. The approach is steep and short — climbing shoes on within minutes of leaving the car. June through October is prime. No active peregrine ban at Pitchoff on the current DEC list.
