Bird ban (03-01 to 08-01)
Spider's Web is explicitly listed by NYSDEC among the annually-monitored Adirondack cliffs for peregrine falcon nesting (part of the Chapel Pond area monitoring). Closures may be applied or lifted year-to-year depending on nest activity — check dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/rock-and-ice-climbing/adirondack-route-closures for the current-year status before travelling.

About Spider's Web

Spider's Web is the Adirondacks' hard-trad testpiece cliff — a compact, overhanging east-facing anorthosite wall in the Chapel Pond area holding some of the hardest gear-protected climbs in the eastern US. Because the wall is steep and sun-drenched, it dries fast even in the wet Adirondack climate. Mountain Project's top-ranked classics are Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood (5.8), Slim Pickins (5.9+), On The Loose (5.10a), Esthesia (5.10a), and Drop, Fly, or Die (5.11a) — note the last is 5.11a on MP, not 5.13 as sometimes cited elsewhere. Zabba (5.13a) is the harder crag testpiece. Fifteen-minute approach from the Chapel Pond pull-off; DEC land, no permit or fee. Shares a weather anchor with Chapel Pond Slab and Beer Walls. Best conditions June through October. NY DEC's 2025 bulletin lists Spider's Web as open with no active peregrine ban, but the area is monitored — check dec.ny.gov before travelling in spring.
