Bird ban (1 April to 31 July)
The cliffs hold significant seabird colonies (kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills, puffins) — much of the venue is closed to climbing through the nesting season. Check RSPB/SNH access advice before visiting in spring

About Bullers of Buchan

The Bullers of Buchan is a spectacular pink-granite coast six miles south of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, most famous for its collapsed sea cave — an almost circular 30-metre chasm through which the sea rushes via a natural archway. Just south of the chasm sits Arthur Fowlie, a stunning leaning granite wall that gives the venue its best route, and there are further stacks, sea arches and chimneys along the coast. The rock is the classic north-east pink granite: rough, well weathered, and reliable, giving clean wall climbing on positive edges, jam cracks and clean gear. Facing east into the North Sea, the cliffs dry fast in even a light Buchan breeze but attract very significant seabird colonies — a formal bird ban keeps much of the venue closed from April to July, and any climbing outside the ban should still avoid disturbing occupied ledges. Approach is a short walk along a narrow clifftop path from parking off the A975 north of Cruden Bay.
