Bird ban (1 April to 31 July)
SWT wildlife reserve with large seabird colonies — most cliff sectors are closed during nesting. Check the reserve access notes before visiting in spring or early summer

About Longhaven Cliffs

Longhaven Cliffs is the primary Aberdeenshire pink-granite sea-cliff venue, running a two-and-a-half mile stretch of coast between Peterhead and Cruden Bay, with cliffs rising to sixty metres and studded with inlets, stacks, caves and arches. The rock is the north-east's famous pink granite — the same stone the fountains in Trafalgar Square are cut from — offering rough, weathered walls with excellent friction, positive edges and clean crack lines. Facing east into the North Sea, the cliffs dry rapidly in the Buchan wind and offer some of Scotland's longest single-pitch granite sea-cliff routes; Munich Buttress in particular is noted for reliable conditions and quality lines including the classic American Route. The venue is a Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve and holds huge seabird populations, so a formal bird ban keeps most sectors off-limits from April through July. Approach is fifteen minutes across the reserve from the signed car park off the A975.
