About Long Slough

The Long Slough is a narrow, characterful granite chasm along the Aberdeen coast between Doonies Yawns and Souter Head, distinguished by a slender detached pinnacle that gives the venue its most memorable line. The rock is the same coarse Aberdeen granite as neighbouring sectors — sound, well weathered, with good hand- and foot-holds — but the enclosed geometry of the slough gives the climbing a distinctly atmospheric feel, with routes threading through walls, chimneys, and the pinnacle itself. Facing east and set at sea level, the crag gets good morning sun and dries fast in the constant coastal wind, though most base positions are tidal. Approach is joined with the Souter Head walk-in from Burnbanks car park, roughly fifteen minutes along the clifftop path.
