About Old Man of Stoer

Facing largely east, the stack sees good morning sun and dries reasonably in the constant coastal breeze once the surface water has run off. Access requires a Tyrolean traverse across the tidal channel separating the stack from the mainland — traditionally set up by a swimmer at low tide — and this alone gives the day a serious feel. The approach to the top of the cliff is roughly forty-five minutes from parking at Stoer Head Lighthouse.
