About Attermire Scar

Attermire Scar is an imposing limestone amphitheatre standing high above Settle in the Yorkshire Dales. The rock comprises sound, highly featured grey limestone with steep towers, deep cracks, and bold vertical faces. Facing southwest in an elevated setting, the crag catches afternoon sun and dries swiftly under the influence of strong upland winds. The climbing style focuses on adventurous trad routes across the VS to E4 range, featuring long technical pitches and exposed situations. Classic lines like Gargoyle Buttress and Attermire Wall showcase the wild nature of the cliff. Reach the base via a 25-minute steady uphill walk on public footpaths from Settle town center. High wind exposure is the key factor, requiring warm clothing even on sunny days.
