Blue Scar is a striking limestone cliff situated in Littondale, offering fine trad and sport routes on clean gray rock. The cliff character features steep water-worn grooves, vertical crimpy walls, and prominent natural horizontal breaks. Facing directly south, the rock absorbs maximum sunshine and dries rapidly on open upper faces, though lower fissures can weep after sustained wet spells. Climbing here covers a broad spectrum from mid-grade trad lines up to high-end sport testpieces, mainly spanning Severe to E5 and 6a to 7c+. Standout routes such as Dominator test stamina and technical accuracy. Access involves a scenic ten-minute uphill walk along established bridleways from Kilnsey or Arncliffe laybys. Severe seepage in winter makes dry spring and autumn days the optimal window for visiting.
