About Chinkwell Tor
Chinkwell Tor is a prominent granite tor ridge overlooking Widecombe-in-the-Moor, providing fine Dartmoor bouldering and short trad climbs. The rock character features immaculate, high-friction granite with positive quartz edges, sloper top-outs, and clean horizontal cracks. Facing various aspects along the crest, climbers can select sunny or sheltered faces depending on wind conditions. The venue is predominantly used for bouldering circuit problems from VB to 7th grade, featuring classics like Chinkwell Arete. The approach takes fifteen minutes up moorland paths from roadside laybys near Bonehill Rocks. Elevated position allows quick drying after rain showers.
