About Needle Rock (Dewerstone)

Needle Rock is a striking, slender granite pinnacle situated adjacent to the Main Cliff at the Dewerstone in the Plym Valley. The rock character is clean, crystalline granite with positive crimps, sharp arête edges, and narrow crack placements on all sides. Facing predominantly south on its main climbing face, the pinnacle receives excellent sun exposure and dries rapidly under valley breezes. The climbing offers short, airy traditional routes and arête lines from Severe to lower E-grades, with Needle Route serving as the classic peak ascent. The approach takes fifteen minutes along woodland trails from the Shaugh Bridge car park. Isolated pinnacle positioning offers fine positions, though top-outs require care.
