About The Cookie Cliff

The Cookie Cliff is the definitive Yosemite crack-climbing venue — a compact south-facing wall in Lower Merced River Canyon about 0.5 miles downstream of Cascade Creek bridge, roughly 8km down-canyon from El Cap. Home to some of the world's most famous finger and hand cracks — Outer Limits (5.10c), Wheat Thin (5.10c), Waverly Wafer (5.11a), and Butterfingers (5.11a) are the definitive splitter classics; harder testpieces include Cookie Monster (5.12a sport) and Cookie Cutter (5.13b sport). The Cookie sits at only 1080m in the drier, sunnier lower canyon so it warms up much faster than the main valley — often climbable in late March when El Cap is still cold. Pull-out on Highway 140; short uphill walk.
