About Girdle Ness

Girdle Ness occupies the headland guarding the southern entrance to Aberdeen Harbour, providing accessible granite sea cliff climbing near the lighthouse. The rock character is coarse, ocean-washed granite with positive edges, clean cracks, and horizontal wiring breaks. Facing east into the North Sea, the crag gets morning light and dries quickly in ocean winds when free of sea fog. The route selection spans friendly low-grade trad climbs up to intermediate E-grades, led by Girdle Wall. The approach takes under ten minutes along flat coastal paths from parking areas near the Girdle Ness lighthouse. While main sectors remain above normal high tides, sea swell can create spray on lower routes.
