About Bamford Edge
Bamford Edge sits high above Ladybower Reservoir, facing south-west into the prevailing wind, so it is fast drying and seldom green. That same exposure means it's a cold venue whenever there is any breeze: excellent friction in a crisp spell, unpleasant in a westerly gale. Most of the edge is on private land, open under CRoW. The landowner can close it for up to 28 days a year, usually on grouse-shooting days from late August into early October, so check the BMC RAD for closure dates before travelling. Dogs aren't allowed on the access land (Moscar, Derwent and Hallam Moors restriction), only on public rights of way. Approach only by the agreed path from the layby with the marked gate and stile. Ring ouzels nest here most years and signs mark the sensitive buttresses in spring.
