About Higgar Tor
Higgar Tor (often spelled Higger Tor) sits on the west side of the Burbage Valley, facing south-west, and is dominated by the Leaning Block. Its 12m front face overhangs by about 15 degrees and carries The Rasp (E2 5b), with The File (VS 4c), one of the Peak's great jamming cracks, round on the south face. The tor stands exposed to the prevailing wind, so it dries quickly after rain, but it can be bitterly cold in the morning even when the valley feels mild. Summer evenings, when the sun swings onto the faces, are the classic time. The climbing is short, steep and powerful, so good friction matters more than usual; avoid humid, still days. It's a short walk from the Upper Burbage Bridge parking, so it's easy to combine with Burbage in one session.
