About Lawrencefield
Compact gritstone quarry near Grindleford — steep walls, immaculate rock, dries reasonably fast. The disused workings surround a central pool and face several directions, so sun tracks around different sections through the day. Mature tree cover keeps parts of the quarry shaded and slower to dry after damp spells. The approach takes roughly ten minutes down a woodland trail from the Surprise View parking area.
