About Millstone Edge
Quarried grit — routes up to 30m, much taller than natural edges. Smooth faces, fierce cracks, bold aretes. SW-facing walls dry fastest. North Bay holds moisture longer. Park at Surprise View. The quarried rock is smooth and friction-dependent compared to natural edges, requiring precise jamming and laybacking technique. Deep corners can retain seepage for a day or two after heavy rainfall, so bear that in mind after wet spells. London Wall (E5 6a) and The Master's Edge (E7 6c) are the famous testpieces; Great North Road (HVS 5a) is the classic at a friendlier grade.
